Franklin County Release Meanings
A Franklin County release is the end of one agency's custody, not always the end of confinement. The Massachusetts release-type definitions include bail, personal recognizance, court release, time served, sentence discharge, parole, probation, transfer, and release to another justice agency. They even include a change in legal status while a person remains incarcerated. The release category and destination matter as much as the date.
The Franklin County Sheriff's Office operates one combined jail and house of correction at Elm Street. It holds people awaiting trial and people serving county sentences. A transfer to the Massachusetts Department of Correction, another county, federal custody, or immigration custody ends Franklin County sheriff custody but does not put the person in the community. A reliable record search follows the receiving authority whenever the disposition says transfer, detainer, warrant, or another agency.

Franklin County Inmate Release Types

The same date can describe legal authorization, the moment FCSO custody ended, or an agency transfer. Those dates should remain separately labeled.

A person can have more than one case, warrant, or sentence. Release on one matter does not cancel the rest. The final disposition field and receiving authority prevent a mistaken claim that a person returned home.
Franklin County Release Record Fields
The best county proof is the existing admission and release report or the relevant booking-file pages. FCSO's records unit prepares admission and release reports even though the office does not publish them as a web roster. Ask for the actual event, not a staff-created summary. Different systems may use different labels, and protected fields can be redacted.

For a booking image, name the photograph as a separate item. A booking photograph alone is not CORI under Massachusetts regulations, but disclosure still depends on the individual record, exemptions, and any sealing or expungement order.
Request Franklin County Release Records
The FCSO Records Access page identifies the correct county custodian. A narrow request should name the person, date range, and existing record types. It should also ask for segregable public portions if some information is exempt. Electronic delivery can reduce copy cost.
- Collect the full name, date of birth if known, approximate admission and release dates, and any booking, commitment, or docket number.
- Email records@fcso-ma.us or address the request to Records/Capt. Jason Yuryan, Franklin County Sheriff's Office, 160 Elm Street, Greenfield, MA 01301.
- Ask for the admission/release report, actual release time, type, facility, destination, and any existing sentence calculation or discharge certificate.
- Request electronic copies and ask for an estimate before chargeable work. Massachusetts law generally requires a written response within ten business days.
- Compare the response with the court disposition and follow any receiving authority named in the record.
The office lists 413-774-4014 extension 2191. Telephone requests may be accepted at its discretion. State guidance generally provides four free labor hours for state agencies, permits qualifying labor charges up to $25 per hour afterward, and sets black-and-white paper copies at five cents per page. FCSO has not posted a fixed release-record fee, so only the custodian's estimate controls.

Franklin County Release Record Law
M.G.L. c. 66, §10 governs access, response timing, copies, estimates, redaction, and appeals. The definition and exemptions in M.G.L. c. 4, §7 also apply. The law supports access to existing public records and segregable portions. It does not require an agency to create a custom release list that it does not maintain.
Retention is not stated on the FCSO website. Ask the Records Access Officer which schedule covers the requested booking and release series.
Juvenile, victim, medical, security, CORI, sealed, and expunged material can be restricted. Sealing limits public access but does not mean every operational copy ceased to exist. Franklin Release Times in Chicopee
The Western Massachusetts Regional Women's Correctional Center is outside Franklin County, but a prior official audit documented a small number of Franklin County women there. Its bail-release page gives processing windows of 4 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on weekends. Those are WCC times and must never be assigned to Elm Street.
Before a WCC community release, staff check other mittimuses, warrants, detainers, and legal holds. A mittimus is the court's written commitment order. Electronic monitoring can also delay departure while weekday court or probation transport is arranged. Franklin Release Property Rules
FCSO inventories property at admission. Under its inmate property rules, an incarcerated person may sign a release form allowing an adult friend or family member with official photo identification to collect stored property. One set of clothes stays for eventual release or transfer. Large items may remain with the arresting police agency instead of the jail.
This property process is separate from custody status. A signed property release does not prove that a person left custody. The page also refers to Kimball House as a pre-release unit, yet it gives no separate public locator or records desk. Movement there should be treated as an internal placement until the final FCSO release transaction says otherwise.
Find Franklin County Released Inmates
Start with the last known custodian. The county jail, MA DOC, BOP, ICE, and a regional jail hold separate records. A missing name is only a clue. It can mean release, transfer, spelling mismatch, a delay, or lack of system coverage.
- Call FCSO at 413-774-4014 when Elm Street was the last known location. Ask whether the person remains held and, if not, whether the disposition was community release or transfer.
- Request the county admission/release record in writing. This supplies the time, release type, and destination that a phone answer may not establish.
- Check the Massachusetts court docket for bail, recognizance, dismissal, time served, sentence, probation, warrants, and later orders.
- Follow a state commitment into MA DOC and VINELink. Follow parole or probation through the proper board, sentencing court, or authorized record.
- Use BOP for federal custody, ICE ODLS for immigration custody, and SORB only when the facts support that specialized registry.
FCSO publishes no current roster, recent-release feed, or archive. A released person must be traced through the release report and receiving system.
Franklin Release Dockets by Court
Franklin County criminal records follow a geographic split. Greenfield District Court serves nineteen listed municipalities. Orange District Court serves eight eastern-area communities, while Franklin County Superior Court handles applicable higher-level cases countywide. The correct clerk matters when the docket number is unknown.
Remote criminal searches are generally docket-number based. A courthouse public terminal allows broader access to non-excluded records. The official court-search route directs users to Trial Court Case Access and courthouse records.
The court result can prove legal authorization, but FCSO's transaction remains the stronger source for the actual time sheriff custody ended.
Massachusetts Search for Franklin Releases
The MA DOC locator page sends users to VINELink. Search with a full first and last name or commitment number, select Massachusetts, and compare the result's identity and institution. Only MA DOC participates in Massachusetts VINE, so this route does not cover a person held only by FCSO.

Franklin County Recent Release Records
No official rolling 24-hour or 72-hour FCSO feed was found. There is no verified public field list, photo field, update schedule, archive window, or sheriff mobile app. For a same-day check, ask whether an existing daily admission/release report covers the exact time span. For a three-day check, provide all start and end dates and times. Staff need not create a new report.
The quarterly Chapter 126 report shows that Franklin records release date, admission type, earned time, sentence length, and jail credit in its reporting environment. Its public version is anonymous and quarterly. It describes trends and fields, not named people. Franklin County Reentry Support
The FCSO Reentry Program offers free support to Franklin County residents returning after incarceration. Its local resource at 106 Main Street in Greenfield includes help with identification documents, transportation planning, treatment and health links, education, and basic needs. A dedicated first-ten-days resource focuses on the early period after release.
The program can help a released person find local services during the first days back. It does not confirm custody, change a court order, or replace a parole or probation office. Release papers and the originating agency's record remain the sources for legal status.
Getting Home After Franklin Release
Transportation assistance is a service route, not a promise that a ride waits at the jail. Release papers, the actual exit point, and any supervision directions should guide the plan. Franklin Regional Transit Authority can be checked for current regional service, but no official source says a particular bus meets releases.
A person released in Chicopee needs a different plan from someone leaving Elm Street in Greenfield. First verify the releasing facility. Then ask the reentry program what help is available and check the current transit schedule. The custody record proves release; transportation support only helps with the trip afterward.
Franklin County Release Supervision
Parole and probation are not interchangeable. The Massachusetts Parole Board controls conditional release from a custodial term. Massachusetts Probation Service administers court-ordered supervision. A docket may show probation, but it is not a live compliance screen. Public access to an adult's current probation details is limited without the required signed authorization.
There is no full public parolee-by-name lookup. Published life-sentence decisions cover only certain cases, and a grant still does not prove physical release. Release papers and board records identify the assigned office. The western Region 5 office is nearby, but its page does not expressly map Franklin County to that region, so assignment must be confirmed.
Franklin Release or ICE Transfer
Franklin County's former ICE detention operation closed in 2021. The last nine detainees were transferred to Plymouth County. That local history shows why disappearance from Franklin custody can mean transfer rather than community release. The old Franklin arrangement should not be described as a current ICE facility.
When an FCSO disposition names immigration custody, use the ICE Online Detainee Locator System. ICE says ODLS can include current detainees and people released from ICE custody within the last 60 days. A no-result is inconclusive. For federal prison custody, the BOP locator covers records from 1982 onward and can show `RELEASED`, a past date, or `IN TRANSIT`. In transit is not release.
Franklin Release Search by Custody
The source should match the agency that last held the person. One search cannot cover every Franklin County release path.

Why is a name absent? The system may cover only current custody, a different agency may hold the person, or a sealed record may restrict access. Absence alone never proves community release.
Franklin County Release Facilities
The Franklin County Jail and House of Correction is the county facility in Greenfield. It releases people to the community or transfers them according to the court, sentence, warrant, or receiving authority. Its records unit holds the county admission/release report.
The Western Massachusetts Regional Women's Correctional Center in Chicopee is operated by the Hampden County Sheriff. Historical official material documents that it served a small number of Franklin County women, but placement must be checked case by case. WCC records prove its physical release; the Franklin docket proves the related court action.
